Biography

Hi my name is Nick Kemper and I am a graduate student-athlete at The University of Akron. I have loved baseball since I could walk and have always pushed myself to reach the highest mountain in the sport. Various injuries that caused me to have different surgeries derailed most of my college career. The biggest one was when I had Tommy John Surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in my right elbow and that took two whole years of missed time. Dejected and feeling sorry for myself, I almost quit entirely. However, I got back on my feet and now I am right where I need to be. While I wish I didn't have to miss three full years of competition, I am grateful for my journey and for the University of Akron for taking a shot on me and giving me a shot at redemption. While baseball is a huge part of my life, it isn't everything. In my spare time, I love to read and research human optimization and performance. I am fascinated with how the body optimally functions and performs. Due to this, I am a big into fitness and sports performance. I spend countless hours trying to find ways to give myself and other humans that extra one inch. At times, baseball and physical fitness go hand in hand, however, some times I like to completely decompress from that lifestyle altogether and I turn to cooking and collecting sports memorabilia. Both of these things give me a fresh perspective on life and help me stay in the moment. I was born in Louisiana, so I love cooking with cajun food and experimenting with cajun recipes, however, I am pretty broad in my culinary horizons and I like to cook with just about everything. This is just a little snapshot of my life. If you would like to know more about me, feel free to reach out and we can set something up!
